AIT (pronounced like the number eight) Hour Museum, as its name suggests, is an experimental temporary museum space which emerges for eight hours only. Curated and organised by AIT, thus far we have initiated it twice in Tokyo. The first manifestation was in a disused school gymnasium in 2002 and the second in the club Super Deluxe in 2004. Our idea is to question, challenge and undermine many of our assumptions about museums by creating non-linear programming with simultaneous actions and events, respecting darkness and sounds, offering comfort to guests and always becoming invisible again. In a dense and expensive city like Tokyo, we feel that the museum as we have known it can be re-imagined. AIT Hour Museum respects Oyvind Fahlstrom's ideas about 'Pleasure Houses' and the actions of the Gutai Group. Photographs from previous AIT Hour Museums can be seen in the photo album titled 'Tokyo spaces'.
