I have been getting into a new thing - audio slideshows.
These are slideshows of still images put to sound or music. As an internet form it seems to have come into its own largely as a tool for photojournalists over the past two to three years. Several portal sites exist such as Interactive Narratives. I have always been a fan of the 35mm slideshow, but have never been able to carry this interest over into my web use. Now with tools such as Soundslides it is very easy to create and publish these basic multimedia exercises. I feel that the experience of watching still images with sound is quite different to that of watching streams of video - one's attention span and concentration seem to be greater. It seems to lean closer to radio than television, where the imagination is given a broader space to probe about in.
So, I have added a new category to the blog called 'Audio Slideshows'. I plan to post both my own and external shows which I find interesting. To start things off, a debut slideshow from me about election posters from the recently held Upper House Elections in Japan. I hope it works OK.
